Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, who is a pediatric neurologist, and who on WTOP radio on Wednesday morning described how a baby who was born alive could be left to die, gave a speech at a Virginia prayer breakfast last year where he quoted from a passage in the Gospel of Matthew.

Northam’s remarks at the Eastern Shore Christian Businessman’s Association’s annual prayer breakfast were reported on May 11, 2018 by

Here is a quote from the report:

“‘I want to tell you that, as you climb your mountain in life, you're going to go into the sunset one day, just like all of us, and the most important thing to all of you will be your relationships — your relationships with your family, your friends, your pastors, your coaches," Northam said, adding, ‘Don't ever forget your roots.’

“Northam said prayer ‘has really kept me grounded over the years,’ and he quoted one of his favorite Bible verses, Matthew 25:40, ‘The king will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."’

"‘This is all about giving back; it's all about having a blessed life and remembering to do everything that we can to take care of those that are perhaps less fortunate than us," he said.”
