Illustrated with a photo from The Guardian that showed British school students on strike last Friday to draw attention to climate change, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.-N.Y.) sent out a tweet on Saturday warning that “sea levels are rising” and there’s “little time left.”
One of the students in the photo from The Guardian carried a signed that said: “You say you love your children, but you are destroying our future.”
Ocasio-Cortez quoted that slogan from The Guardian photo at the top of her Tweet.
“Our sea levels are rising,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “Droughts are worsening. Wildfires are spreading. Storms are coming. There’s precious little time left. We must mobilize our economy around a #GreenNewDeal before it’s it too late."
The Guardian reported on Friday about the students’s strike in the United Kingdom:
“Thousands of schoolchildren and young people have walked out of classes to join a UK-wide climate strike amid growing anger at the failure of politicians to tackle the escalating ecological crisis.
“Organisers said more than 10,000 young people in at least 60 towns and cities from the Scottish Highlands to Cornwall joined the strike, defying threats of detention to voice their frustration at the older generation’s inaction on the environmental impact of climate change.”
