(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.-N.Y.) applauded the “voice” of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D.-Minn.) for what Ocasio-Cortez believes is its effectiveness in exposing the “the authoritarian foreign policy tendencies” of the Trump administration.
Ocasio-Cortez made the observation in a Tweet she sent out on Sunday night reposting a Tweet from Omar in which Omar said: “Trump and Elliot Abrams cannot be trusted to tell the truth about what’s happening in Venezuela.”
“We must continue to question the narratives they provide and promote…” Omar said in that Tweet.
In her own Tweet, reposting what Omar’s Tweet, Ocasio-Cortez said: “Rep. Omar, a survivor of war, is one of the most effective voices right now at cutting through the authoritarian foreign policy tendencies of this administration. She nails it here. You can see why she gets targeted.”
Omar’s Tweet linked to a story that the New York Times published on Sunday that carried the headline: “Footage Contradicts U.S. Claim That Nicolas Maduro Burned Aid Convoy.”
The Times reported:
“The narrative seemed to fit Venezuela’s authoritarian rule: Security forces, on the order of President Nicolás Maduro, had torched a convoy of humanitarian aid…
"But there is a problem: The opposition itself, not Mr. Maduro’s men, appears to have set the cargo alight accidentally. Unpublished footage obtained by The New York Times and previously released tapes--including footage released by the Colombian government, which has blamed Mr. Maduro for the fire--allowed for a reconstruction of the incident. It suggests that a Molotov cocktail thrown by an antigovernment protester was the most likely trigger for the blaze.”
