Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.-N.Y.) sent out a Tweet today stating that climate change is happening and there is a deadline of 12 years to cut emissions in half.

“Climate change is here + we’ve got a deadline: 12 years to cut emissions in half,” she said in the Tweet.

"A #GreenNewDeal is our plan for a world and a future worth fighting for,” she said.

“How did we get here? What is at stake? And where are we going?” she asked.

She then asked people to “watch and share widely” a video she had narrated for The Intercept, and included a link The Intercept page about that video. (You can watch the video by clicking here.)

“Today, The Intercept launches ‘A Message From the Future With Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,’ a seven-minute film narrated by the congresswoman and illustrated by Molly Crabapple,” the story said.

“Set a couple of decades from now, it’s a flat-out rejection of the idea that a dystopian future is a forgone conclusion,” the story said. “Instead, it offers a thought experiment: What if we chose to radically change course and save both our habitat and ourselves.

“What if we actually pull off a Green New Deal?” it asked. “What would the future look like then?”
