On his nationally syndicated radio talk show Tuesday, host Mark Levin told his listeners that President Trump’s recent attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions are “enormously foolish” and a “huge distraction.”

“If the President of the United States really wants Jeff Sessions to go, and he really thinks that’s a smart move – I think it’s enormously foolish on his part – then pick up the phone and call him and tell him to resign,” said Mark Levin. “You don’t need to rip him to pieces. Or call him in your office and tell him to resign and have witnesses there. Take notes yourself. Have a camera – whatever you want.

“But to take this former Senator, who was the first to support you, who was loyal to you and to treat him this way, I think, is terribly wrong, terribly wrong,” Levin continued later. “And I don’t think he’s going to get anybody any better. That I’m almost certain of, and it’s a huge distraction.”

Levin’s comments came after President Trump took to Twitter Tuesday to heap more criticism on the Attorney General, tweeting his disappointment in Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the Russia matter and his lack of action on Hillary Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server.

Below is a transcript of Levin’s remarks from his show Tuesday:

“The issue isn’t whether you agree with everything that Jeff Sessions has done throughout his career as Attorney General of the United States, such as recusing on the Russia matter.

“I’ve said here before, I don’t feel he should have recused, but he did. So be it.

“He’s also done other things. He has defended this president brilliantly and aggressively in hostile federal courts throughout this country when it’s come to his executive orders, among other things. He has been a very loyal Attorney General. He’s been a loyal conservative for decades.

“He does not deserve to be treated this way by the president, as if he is some enemy of this president or he’s hostile to this president. He’s not, and he hasn’t demonstrated that in any respect.

“Now, I understand the president’s angry about the way his family is being treated. I’m angry about the way his family is being treated, and so are you. But Jeff Sessions isn’t doing that. The Republicans in Congress are allowing this to take place. Jeff Sessions isn’t a Senator anymore. He’s the Attorney General.

“Nor did he appoint Rob Mueller to be special counsel. The deputy Attorney General did that, and ironically, should Sessions step down or be fired, the deputy Attorney General of the United States becomes the acting Attorney General of the United States. That is Rod Rosenstein, would be the acting Attorney General of the United States.

“Now, the president could appoint a recess appointment for a short period of time. The president could nominate somebody else, who would never get through the senate – I guarantee you. But he would never find somebody who is as loyal to him and his agenda as Jeff Sessions.

“And I don’t agree with Jeff Sessions on trade, but that doesn’t matter. He’s the Attorney General.

“And so, it’s obvious what Trump is trying to do is berate him, upset him and try and force him – on his own accord – to just leave. Nobody wants to be treated this way, and he’s got a wife, he’s got kids. They read this stuff too.

“To come in there every day, to the Department of Justice and know that The President of the United States is trashing you is a very, very difficult situation. It also means that he could lose control of the Department of Justice.

“If the President of the United States really wants Jeff Sessions to go, and he really thinks that’s a smart move – I think it’s enormously foolish on his part – then pick up the phone and call him and tell him to resign. You don’t need to rip him to pieces. Or call him in your office and tell him to resign and have witnesses there. Take notes yourself. Have a camera – whatever you want.

“But to take this former Senator, who was the first to support you, who was loyal to you and to treat him this way, I think, is terribly wrong, terribly wrong. And I don’t think he’s going to get anybody any better. That I’m almost certain of, and it’s a huge distraction.”
