On Friday, nationally syndicated radio talk show host Mark Levin told his listeners that “either the border isn’t more secure or the [Obama] administration is intentionally violating our immigration laws.”

“So the border is so secure, and yet more and more people who come here illegally are getting to stay,” said Mark Levin. “Now, either the border isn’t more secure, or the administration is intentionally violating our immigration laws.”

Levin’s comments refer to an article by the Associated Press that reports an unreleased document by the Department of Homeland Security which cites the number of illegal immigrants caught coming over the Mexican border into the United States.

Below is a transcript of Levin’s comments:

“The Associated Depressed: ‘Barely half of the people who entered the [United States] illegally from Mexico last year were caught, according to a report commissioned by the Department of Homeland Security that also shows sharp declines in illegal entries. The report found 54% of the people who entered illegally between border crossings got caught in the 2015 fiscal year.’

“You know what amazes me about this number? If they know that 46 percent of them got through, then how did they get through? Do you follow me, Mr. Producer? How do you know that there were another 46 percent who got through? Now, that’s much lower than the 81 percent success rate that Homeland Security cited publically using a different counting method. This is the endless lies and corruption. It’s just unbelievable.

“‘The 98 page report was completed in May and the Homeland Security has declined to release it.’

“They do a report on our dime. It’s not national security. There’s no secrets. It’s not attorney work product. What do you mean you won’t release it?

“That belongs to you and me. But the AP obtained a copy from a government official involved in border issues who acted on condition of anonymity because it has not been made public.

“Doesn’t it sound like some tyrannical, repressive regime? ‘They leaked out this report that disclosed what they’re up to which is, truthfully they’re letting all these people who are coming in here illegally stay. Don’t reveal my name! Don’t get me in trouble!

“So congress doesn’t have this because Obama won’t release it.

“The report offers some of most detailed measures yet of how secure the border with Mexico is — a major issue in a presidential campaign that features … blah, blah blah.

“‘In terms of people,’ now, I want you to listen to this. So the border is so secure, and yet more and more people who come here illegally are getting to stay. Now, either the border isn’t more secure, or the administration is intentionally violating our immigration laws.

“‘In terms of people, 170,000 eluded capture during the 2015 fiscal year, 210,000 the previous year, and 1.7 million in 2005. The number of people who eluded capture is larger when including those who escaped detection at border crossings or who entered by sea, which is the responsibility of Homeland Security agencies outside the Border Patrol. Adding those, 200,000 people got away last year, 260,000 in 2014, and 1.9 million in 2005.’

“What? 1.9 million in 2005? No wonder Bret Stephens and Max Boot are upset, when their man G.W. Bush effectively had an open border.

“‘A huge drop in illegal entries over the last decade coincides with increases in ... .’

“Oh, yeah. Okay. So they start out barely half the people who entered the U.S. illegally from Mexico last year were caught, but it’s a great thing, ladies and gentlemen, because it’s a lot more than it was eleven years ago.”
