(CNSNews.com) - Democrats "are bound and determined to go after the attorney general, to go after President Trump," instead of helping the country, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told "Sunday Morning Futures" with Maria Bartiromo.
In a letter to Attorney General William Barr on Friday, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, set a Monday morning deadline, 9 a.m., for Barr to make the full, unredacted Mueller report, plus all the underlying evidence, available to all members of Congress who would view it in a secure area.
Nadler is expected to hold Barr in contempt of Congress if he refuses, as he's expected to do.
"So I think they're nervous about Bill Barr, because remember what he said three weeks ago in front of the Senate Finance Committee," Jordan said:
He made four important points. First of all, he said spying did in fact take place. Second, he said there is a basis for his concern that the spying wasn't properly predicated. Third, he said there was a failure of leadership at the upper echelon of the FBI. We know that for sure.
Comey, McCabe, Baker, Strzok, Page, we know there was a failure of leadership there. And then, fourth, he used two terms that I have never really heard before, and my guess is most Americans haven't. He used the term unauthorized surveillance and he used the term political surveillance.
So the Democrats are scared. And, frankly, I think, when we're talking about obstruction of justice, the real obstruction of justice is what Democrats are trying to do to the attorney general. They are trying to stop him by all these things, this contempt and not having him come testify. They are trying to stop him from getting the answers that we just talked about.
On the subject of spying, former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos told "Sunday Morning Futures" how he believes he was set up and "entrapped" by U.S. intelligence agencies, aided by intelligence operatives in Britain, Italy, and Australia.
"This thing reeks of spying, entrapment and illegal and illicit behavior," Papadopoulos told Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.
Papadopoulos is urging President Trump to declassify information that would disclose the "involvement of the U.K. and Australia in interfering in the 2016 election."
"We're also going to get to the bottom of who Joseph Mifsud really was, who he was working for. And we're going to understand who was running all of these spies at me and likely other people on the campaign, including Michael Flynn..."
Joseph Misfud is the British professor who first told Papadopoulos, falsely, that the Russians had Hillary Clinton's emails. "I think this person was some sort of plant," Papadopoulos said.
Following his meetings with Misfud, Papadopoulos said he was contacted by U.S. intel officials, British intel officials, and Australian intel officials.
"I'm pretty sure there are a lot of recordings and transcripts between myself and a lot of these assets. And I'm very hopeful that these are going to get public very soon and the president is going to start declassifying this material," Papadopoulos said.
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the ranking member of the House intelligence committee, told Maria Bartiromo it is a "fact" that the Trump campaign was spied on. "What I want to know is, how may spies -- with an "s" -- were were involved in this? I mean, it's -- and this is why we have to get to the bottom of this, why all this information needs to come out."
Rep. Jordan told Bartiromo, "I think the fundamental question is, was Joseph Mifsud working for Western intelligence? And if he was, that changes it all. Bill Barr has indicated he's going to get to the bottom of this. And it is important that we do find out how this all started.
"I always go back to this, Maria. January 3, 2017, then the highest ranking official in the United States Congress, Senator Chuck Schumer, said this about President-elect Trump. He said, 'You mess with the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you.'
"And the question is, did that really play out? Was the intelligence community targeting the Trump campaign, targeting the Trump -- then president-elect Trump and the Trump administration? Bill Barr wants to find out. And I think he's going to do it. And I applaud him for doing so," Jordan said.
