(CNSNews.com) - As we move into a new week, Democrats are returning to an old topic -- impeachment.

The House Judiciary Committee reportedly plans to vote Wednesday on a resolution that would "formalize procedures for a growing impeachment inquiry," The New York Times reported.

The move would allow Democrats to speed up their investigations, the Times reported. And it would back up court filings made by Democrats which already state that they are conducting an impeachment inquiry, when no vote has been taken.

Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, the ranking Republican on the committee, called the upcoming committee vote a "show" and a "travesty." He said Democrats, including Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) "should be ashamed."

"He's trying to save himself from embarrassment on what they have been doing, because they have found nothing that they promised in the last eight months," Collins told Fox News's Maria Bartiromo on "Sunday Morning Futures."

"They can change committee rules, as long as it doesn't violate House rules. And some of these may actually look like they would be void by violating House rules.

"But there's another part here that's really concerning," Collins said. "They went so far that they actually claimed to the court in some of their filings in the case of McGahn and others they had proper procedures in place for grand jury material and sensitive materials.

They made a filing in court saying this happened. We made a letter to him (the judge) and said, you don't have this. Now this resolution seems to be addressing that issue. I want to know if they are going to go back to court and say, sorry, Judge, we lied. That's going to be the interesting part."

Collins said Democrats "just keep digging their hole. They just keep going after things because they hate the president so much..."

He added that Democrats should bring impeachment to a vote of the full House, if that's where they want to go.

According to the New York Times:

"The (Judiciary) committee is preparing to rapidly broaden the substance of the inquiry this fall beyond the investigation into any role by Trump associates in Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election. On the agenda for new scrutiny are Mr. Trump’s role in illegal hush payments to women who said they had affairs with him, reports that he dangled pardons to immigration officials and whether his hotels and resorts have illegally profited from government spending."
