(CNSNews.com) - As of Monday night, none of the witnesses requested by Republicans will be allowed to appear before the House intelligence committee when it takes its impeachment inquiry public, starting tomorrow (Wednesday).
"As of right now, we have none of our witnesses, right?" Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the ranking member of the intelligence committee told Fox News's Sean Hannity.
Nunes noted that even Ambassador Kurt Volker, the first witness called by Democrats in their closed-door hearings, will not be allowed to testify in the open hearings, because Democrats apparently didn't like what they heard from the U.S. special envoy to Ukraine.
"So as of right now, we have no witnesses and we have no knowledge of the foundation of this case -- of these accusations," Nunes said.
Republicans requested the following witnesses, explaining in writing the relevance of each one, as Committee Chair Adam Schiff directed them to do:
--Devon Archer, former board member of Burisma Holdings;
--Hunter Biden, former board member of Burisma Holdings;
--Alexandra Chalupa, former Democratic National Committee staffer, who has admitted to providing anti-Trump dirt to the DNC and the Clinton campaign;
--David Hale, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs;
--Tim Morrison, former NSC official who listened to Trump’s July 25 phone call with Zelensky;
--Nellie Ohr, former opposition researcher for Fusion GPS who contributed to the Steele dossier;
--Ambassador Kurt Volker, former Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations;
--The anonymous whistle-blower;
--All individuals relied upon by the anonymous whistle-blower in drafting his or her secondhand complaint.
"Let's see how this goes this week," Nunes said. "My guess is, it's going to be a complete circus. We're not going to get any of our witnesses, the mainstream media is going to say how damaging it is to the president. That's just going to be the story line.
"But the fact of the matter is, if you actually read these transcripts ...these transcripts, as we were saying when the Democrats were slowly leaking these out to their friends in the media, that's what we've been doing for the last six weeks," Nunes said.
"But now that the transcripts are out, they are devastating to Democrats, so let's see where it goes. But at the end of the day, the Senate should be calling all these people in as soon as possible."
If and when House Democrats impeach the president, the trial would be held in the Republican-controlled Senate, where Republican-requested witnesses would be allowed to testify.
President Trump tweets daily about the Democrats' effort to oust him from office.
On Tuesday morning, he announced, "I will be releasing the transcript of the first, and therefore more important, phone call with the Ukrainian President before week’s end!"
Trump also tweeted that as president, he has an "obligation" to look into corruption, and he slammed some of the Democrats' approved witnesses:
Why is such a focus put on 2nd and 3rd hand witnesses, many of whom are Never Trumpers, or whose lawyers are Never Trumpers, when all you have to do is read the phone call (transcript) with the Ukrainian President and see first hand? He and others also stated that there was.....
.....”no pressure” put on him to investigate Sleepy Joe Biden even though, as President, I have an “obligation” to look into corruption, and Biden’s actions, on tape, about firing the prosecutor, and his son’s taking millions of dollars, with no knowledge or talent, from a.....
....Ukrainian energy company, and more millions taken from China, and now reports of other companies and countries also giving him big money, are certainly looking very corrupt (to put it mildly!) to me. Both Bidens should be forced to testify in this No Due Process Scam!
