(CNSNews.com) -- In reference to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) tearing up the president's State of the Union speech on national television, House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney said Pelosi "had a tantrum" and showed, again, why "she is unfit for office."

At a Capitol Hill press conference on Wednesday, the day after the SOTU, Cheney said, “Speaker Pelosi had a tantrum. She disgraced herself. She dishonored the House."

"She showed once again that she is an embarrassment, that she is unfit for office," said Cheney, "and the American people are going to have the opportunity to make that decision to choose between two visions for the future of this country in November."

"The contrast couldn’t be clearer," she said.  "The difference between a president who has delivered on his promises, a president who’s done what he said he would do, a president who has yielded an era of unmatched economic growth, who is rebuilding our military, who is keeping this nation safe."

"And a party that you saw last night that is so blinded by anger, so blinded by hatred of this president, that they wouldn’t applaud even the most basic, common things, common decency," added Cheney.

After the SOTU address, Pelosi was asked why she tore up the president's speech. She said, "Because it was the courteous thing to do considering the alternatives. I tore it up. I was trying to find one page with truth on it. I couldn't."
