(CNS News) -- In a tweet today, GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said that left-wing Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is "a radical anti-Semite," and added that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) describes this anti-Semite as a "valued member" of the Democratic Party.

In the tweet, McDaniel wrote, "Ilhan Omar is a radical anti-Semite. Instead of condemning her, Nancy Pelosi says she’s a 'valued member' of the Democrat Party."

Rep. Omar, a Somali American and a Muslim, has a long history of making remarks that many observers view as anti-Jewish and anti-Israel.

For instance, Omar has tweeted, "Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel."

In response to criticism about that tweet, she wrote, "Drawing attention to the apartheid Israeli regime is far from hating Jews. You are a hateful sad man, I pray to Allah you get the help you need and find happiness."

Last week, she tweeted, "We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban."

In February 2021, the Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV), which represents more than 1,500 orthodox, traditional rabbis, denounced Omar's appointment as vice chair of the Africa, Global Health, and Global Human Rights subcommittee within the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

“This appointment is both risible and dangerous," said Rabbi Steven Pruzansky, Israel Regional Vice President of the CJV. "Ilhan Omar’s long-standing hatred for Israel and contempt for Jews and for America make this a mockery of human rights advocacy."

“I have little doubt that she will abuse the framework of ‘human rights’ to further her campaign to demonize the Jewish State, as the UN Human Rights Council does on an annual basis," said Rabbi Pruzansky.  "Rep. Omar should have been stripped of her committee assignments, rather than rewarded with a promotion.”

Rabbi Pesach Lerner, president of the CJV, said, “The real concern is that House Democrats are treating Anti-Semitism as a political weapon, abetted by the silence and even backing of Democratic Jewish members."

“The action against Rep. Greene, coupled with the elevation of Rep. Omar, signals that Congress is now willing to tolerate Anti-Semitism when it is politically advantageous to do so," said Rabbi Lerner.
