(CNS News) – Former President Donald Trump spoke out against the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S Capitol, questioning why they did not ask him to testify months ago.

“Why didn’t the Unselect Committee ask me to testify months ago? Why did they wait until the very end, the final moments of their last meeting?” Trump asked on his Truth Social platform.

“Because the Committee is a total ‘BUST’ that has only served to further divide our Country which, by the way, is doing very badly – A laughing stock all over the world?”

In another post he wrote, “The Unselect Committee knowingly failed to examine the massive voter fraud which took place during the 2020 Presidential Election – The reason for what took place on January 6th.”

“Why didn’t Crazy Nancy Pelosi call out the ‘troops’ before January 6th, which I strongly recommended that she do,” said Trump. “It was her responsibility, but she ‘didn’t like the look.’ Crazy Nancy failed the American People!”

While the potential of Thursday’s hearing may be its last on the Jan. 6 attacks, the committee, consisting of seven Democrats and two Republicans, all said “aye” in voting to subpoena Trump.

(The two Republicans, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) and Rep. Lynne Cheney (Wyo.), had expressed their disapproval of Trump even before the events of Jan. 6, 2021 and had voted for his impeachment.)

The Washington Post broke down what the process would look like, starting with the subpoena demanding Trump to “submit documents and provide testimony concerning the events of Jan. 6, 2021.”

If Trump refuses to comply, he could be charged with contempt of Congress. If he challenges the subpoena in court, it would ‘trigger a repeat of a legal battle that unfolded again and again in federal courts during his presidency.’ Any legal proceedings that come from the subpoena could last for months, according to the Washington Post, and could be in Trump’s favor.

“If Republicans take control of the House in January, they will likely dissolve the Jan. 6 committee, rendering the subpoena meaningless, legal experts said,” reported The Post.

Trump continued posting on Truth Social in response to the hearing remarking, “The Unselect Committee is a giant Scam, presided over by a group of Radical Left losers, and two failed Republicans, the likes of which our Country has rarely seen before. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

One of the “failed Republicans” is Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) who said Thursday, “The vast weight of evidence presented so far has shown us that the central cause of Jan. 6 was one man: Donald Trump – who many others followed. None of this would have happened without him. He was personally and substantially involved in all of it.”

Although Trump’s critics frequently describe the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol as an insurrection, to date not one person (of  900-plus arrested) apparently has been charged with insurrection.

The harshest charge has been “seditious conspiracy,” and brought against only 11 people.
