(CNS News) -- When asked whether people should be required to produce an ID in order to vote, just as they must produce an ID to buy alcohol, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said, "Of course, they should."

At the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, CNS News asked Senator Cruz, “Since people are required to show an ID in order to buy alcohol, should they also be required to show an ID to vote?”

The senator replied, "Of course, they should."

Senate bill S.1, the For the People Act, would have allowed the federal government to override all state voter ID laws. The measure was successfully filibustered by the Republicans on Tuesday, preventing the bill from moving forward in the Senate.
