(CNSNews.com) - The record-breaking surge of illegal immigration at the Southwest border "is a man-made crisis," Sen. Ted Cruz, from the overrun State of Texas, told Fox News on Monday.
"It was caused by Joe Biden and the Democrats, he said:
"Number one, they halted construction of the border wall. Number two, they reinstated the disastrous policy of catch and release. And, number three, Biden pulled out of the incredibly successful remain-in-Mexico policy. That's what caused this crisis.
"We went from, under Donald Trump, the lowest illegal immigration in 45 years to now, under Joe Biden, the highest illegal immigration ever recorded; 4.4 million people have crossed illegally since Biden became president.
"And I will tell you, a big part of my book "Justice Corrupted" is, it lays out the utter lawlessness of this administration. The reason for that crisis, Biden and the DOJ refuse to follow the law. And so the way to stop it is, we got to actually deport people who cross illegally. If you don't do that, you will never solve this problem."
The Department of Homeland Security released its monthly border update very late Friday night.
According to Customs and Border Protection, its agents encountered 227,547 illegal border-crossers, many requesting asylum, in September, the final month of Fiscal Year 2022. That brings the grand total for all of FY '22 to 2,378,944 encounters at the southwest border -- a record number.
Sen. Cruz did not directly answer a question about whether Republicans, if they win the majority in the midterm elections, will try to finish building Donald Trump's border wall.
"So, we need majorities in both houses," Cruz said.
"We need to have hearings. We need to have oversight. We need to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of Homeland Security. And we need to fight to defund the 87,000 new IRS agents and put all that funding on securing the border.
"Biden and the Democrats are going to fight us. It's going to be a battle. And I will tell you, Martha, next year, it's going to be a battle where Republican leadership is going to be less than eager to take on the Democrats.
"I hope, when we have majorities, we actually use it and fight, because this fight matters."
Host Martha MacCallum told Cruz, "If you win the majority, I think people want to see actual results."
"Yes. Yes. Yes." Cruz agreed.
