(CNSNews.com) - On stage in Dallas, Texas, Monday night, former Vice President Joe Biden thanked his former political rival Beto O'Rourke for endorsing him.

"I want to make something clear," Biden said:

"I'm going to guarantee this is not the last you're seeing of this guy.

"You're going to take care of the gun problem with me. You're going to be the one who leads this effort. I'm counting on you. I'm counting on you. We need you badly, the state needs you, the country needs you. You're the best. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

O'Rourke was the first Democrat presidential hopeful to state unequivocally, "Hell, yes, we're going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We're not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore."

O'Rourke made the comment at the Sept. 12, 2019 Democrat debate.

In a television interview the day after that debate, O'Rourke said he expects most Americans would comply with a law, if one is passed, requiring them to surrender their "weapons of war."

He ruled out door-to-door confiscation of weapons, but he said gun owners "would be required" to comply with a gun control law that is crafted in conjunction with police chiefs and Congress.
