A single doctor at a Texas abortion clinic performed 67 abortions in 17 hours before the state’s Heartbeat Law went into effect on Wednesday.
This law bans most abortions from occurring after a fetal heartbeat is detected--usually around six weeks of gestation. But, Executive Vice President of the American Life Legion, Hugh Brown, argued that these measures were not enough; infants should be protected from the moment they are conceived.
“Abortion bills that subject children to death, are not life saving measures. A ‘heartbeat’ bill means children in their mother's womb whose heartbeat is not yet detectable is subject to execution. How is that just?” Brown told CNSNews.com.
The night before the law was implemented, Texas women flocked to the Whole Women’s Health Clinic in Fort Worth to get their abortions in time, reported the Daily Wire.
There were only eight employees working at the clinic, and only one doctor, “an octogenarian who had been working since 7 a.m.” 19th News wrote.
That night, the clinic also saw another 60 women who had taken abortion medication at home and wanted confirmation that it worked, 19th News reported.
The Texas law is one of many state heartbeat bills passed to limit at what point of pregnancy women are able to get abortions. In fact, “polling consistently shows Americans’ approval of abortion drops significantly after the first three months,” according to the Daily Wire.
Despite those polls, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) vowed to codify abortion protection in the Women’s Health Protection Act, once Congress was back in session, according to a statement released by her office on Thursday.
“Upon our return, the House will bring up Congresswoman Judy Chu’s Women’s Health Protection Act to enshrine into law reproductive health care for all women across America,” Pelosi wrote.
The Women’s Health Protection Act “would prohibit states from implementing many kinds of requirements or restrictions that abortion advocates argue infringe on reproductive rights,” reported The Washington Examiner.
“The blood lusting left and the ghouls at Planned Parenthood profit from child sacrifice. Does anyone really believe these executioners would follow any law meant to save a child from being butchered and from these fiends collecting their blood money?” American Life Legion’s Brown said:
“Until America values life and protects the right to life of a child in the womb from the moment of his creation until his natural death, these bills will come and go, and children will continue to be slaughtered daily as America yawns."
Pelosi's bill is expected to pass in the House, as Democrats have a majority, but it will likely face more resistance in the Senate, according the Washington Examiner. At least 10 Republicans would have to support the bill in order for it to get to the President’s office.
