(CNS News) – Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) beat former Florida Democratic Governor Charlie Crist in the mid-term elections by nearly 20% – a margin of 59 to 40.
“You know over these past four years, we’ve seen major challenges for the people of our state, for the citizens of the United States and above all for the cause of freedom,” DeSantis said at a post-election rally. “We saw freedom in our very way of life and so many other jurisdictions in this country wither on the vine – Florida held the line.”
He continued, “We chose facts over fear, we chose education over indoctrination, we chose law and order over rioting and disorder. Florida was a refuge of sanity when the world went mad, we stood as a citadel of freedom for people across this country and indeed across the world.”
“… And so today, after four years, the people have delivered their verdict,” said DeSantis. “Freedom is here to stay.”
DeSantis added that Florida had not only won the election but has rewritten the political map.
People attending the speech erupted into cheering and applause.
Yesterday was the combination of the 2022 fall elections, but also the reality of Americans voting for many years with “their feet,” according to DeSantis. The results of that behavior, DeSantis said, had been “just as stark” as his landslide victory in Florida.

The governor then noted that states and cities ran by leftist politicians have seen crime skyrocket, taxpayer abuse, medical authoritarianism and American principles discarded. The “woke” agenda has caused millions of people to leave these jurisdictions for “greener pastures,” with Florida serving as the “promised land.”
“We will never ever surrender to the woke mob – Florida is where woke goes to die,” DeSantis emphasized. “People have come here because our policies work – leadership matters, we refuse to use polls and put our finger in the wind. Leaders don’t follow, they lead.”
Florida is on the right track, according to DeSantis, while much of the country flounders due to failed leadership in the nation’s capital.
“I believe the survival of the American experiment,” he remarked, “requires a revival of true American principles. Florida has proved that it can be done. We offer – we offer a ray of hope that better days still lie ahead.”
