(CNS News) – When asked what the U.S. should do regarding the continuous Russian invasion and occupation of Ukraine, House Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.) said, “Russia’s completely unprovoked – un, un, un, un, uh, un, un, un, un, um, is completely unprovoked attack, un, on a sovereign nation cannot go un, un, un, un, um answered.”

At the Virginia 10th Congressional District Candidates Forum on Oct. 5, University of Mary Washington Political Science Professor Stephen Farnsworth asked Wexton, “What should the United States do with respect to the Russian – continuing Russian invasion and occupation of Ukraine?”

Wexton replied, “So, I believe very strongly that, that we need to push back against Putin and we need to support our Russian, our uh, our, our Ukrainian allies. This is something that effects all of us. You know the Russia’s, Russia’s completely unprovoked – un, un, un, un, uh, un, un, un, un, um, is completely unprovoked attack, un, on a sovereign nation cannot go un, un, un, un, um answered.”

She continued, “This is something that’s a real issue. You know, I’m pleased that we have had bipartisan cooperation on this but there seems to be a lot of erosion on the left, on the right, to uh to now favor Putin. We cannot let him take over this country, the movement of the Iranian people has been absolutely inspiring, of the of the Ukrainian people has been absolutely inspiring.”

“It’s something where we need to keep up, keep our guard up and keep, keep fighting and keep and keep uh keep, keep the money coming because it’s something that, that, that Russia’s not gonna’ give up, I mean there, the atrocities they’ve been performing are absolutely horrible, so we need to fight back.”

Her Republican challenger in the 2022 race, retired Navy Captain Hung Cao, answered the same question.

Cao said, “My heart goes out to the Ukrainian people. I know what it’s like when, you know another country comes in or, or you know, the commies come, comes in and takes over.”

He continued, “Right now we just borrowed $55 billion from China to pay for the war in Ukraine. We’re adding another $12 billon and I looked at that bill – a lot of it goes to paying for the government over there, uh paying their, their salaries, paying for the military, paying for their infrastructure.”

“It has nothing to do with, with uh the war, it has to do with sustaining the government over there and look, I mean I don’t know why we’re worried so much about a border between Russia and Ukraine and we’re not worried about our own border.”
