Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee Carl Levin (D-Mich.)
said he was not informed enough to make a definitive statement on
whether or not the Army’s Office of Chief of Chaplains was right in
ordering chaplains not to read a letter from the Catholic Archbishop
of the Military during mass. The Archbishop’s letter condemns the
recent regulation issued by Health and Human Services which mandates
that all healthcare plans, including religious ones, to cover
sterilizations and abortion inducing contraceptives.
