Rapper T.I. Says Obama’s Tax Hikes Will Create Jobs

(CNSNews.com) - Grammy award-winning rapper T.I. told CNSNews.com that President Barack Obama’s plan to raise taxes on people making $250,000 or more a year will help create jobs. He also said that people well off have a responsibility to help the poor, through inspiration, work and direct financial assistance in some cases.

When asked what personal responsibility he thinks rappers have today, T.I. said they have to help those who cannot help themselves.

“I think, you know, to reach back to help those that can’t help themselves,” T.I. said in reference to rappers’ personal responsibility. “I think with great reward comes great responsibility. Those of us who live above average have a responsibility to help those who live below average,” he said. “Whether it’s through inspiration, through our time, through our funds, through our efforts, our energy – have what we can.”

T.I., 28, said the state of the nation’s economy is the most important issue affecting the country.

“The state of the nation’s economy I believe is probably the most prevalent of issues that I hear in the hood,” he said. “You know, in being down in the hood with the people, that’s what I hear talked about more than anything. Then, of course, you have the war in Iraq, and there are other prevalent issues as well, but I think the economy is the most relevant right now.”

If Obama follows through on his campaign pledge to raise taxes on those making over $250,000 per year, T.I. says this will help the economy.

“I think it may create jobs, absolutely,” he said. “I mean with more tax money, there will be more money there for government jobs to pay more employees.”

T.I. also told CNSNews.com how the election of Barack Obama has changed his life.

“It’s given me a lot more hope – not necessarily for myself but for my children,” he said. “You know, it has truly given me the ability to say to them, ‘You can do anything in the world you want to do.’ It’s been done before, and there’s nothing anyone else has done before that you can’t do. You know what I’m saying? It’s just given a huge amount of inspiration to everyone, and I appreciate being a part of it.”

T.I. has had three number one Billboard Hot 100 singles with “Whatever You Like,” “Live Your Life” featuring Rihanna, and “My Love” with Justin Timberlake. He won a Grammy Award this year in the “Best Rap Performance by a Duo or a Group” category for the song "Swagga’ Like Us" performed with Kanye West, Jay-Z, & Lil’ Wayne. T.I. has sold almost 8 million albums in the United States alone.
