During Thursday’s White House press briefing Carney was asked, “Is it still once and for all – all this speculation, this is the ticket - Obama/Biden?”

“Yes, and that was settled a long, long time ago and while I appreciate, I have great admiration for and respect for and a long relationship with Senator John McCain, but the one place I would not go to for advice on vice presidential running mates is to Senator McCain,”  Carney said in response.

There has been some speculation that Joe Biden’s recent verbal gaffes on the campaign trail may lead to him being dropped from the ticket in favor of former presidential candidate and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

During a Fox News interview on Wednesday, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said it would be "wise" for Vice President Joe Biden to be removed from the ticket.
