United flight diverts; passenger called suspicious
CLEVELAND (AP) — Authorities say a United Airlines flight headed from Chicago to Frankfurt, Germany, has been diverted to Cleveland and a passenger arrested after an onboard disturbance.
United says Flight 944 landed in Cleveland at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport spokeswoman Jackie Mayo says the passenger had been acting suspiciously and would not comply with the flight crew's request to settle down. She says the pilot decided to land, and the passenger and his baggage were removed. She did not know if he had been charged and was not aware of any injuries.
Mayo says other passengers stayed onboard and police dogs swept the plane as a precaution. The plane was cleared to take off by 7 p.m.
An FBI spokesman says the agency is investigating.
