MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say a tropical depression has formed far from land in the Pacific Ocean.

The depression with maximum sustained winds at 35 mph (56 kph) was more than 1,600 miles (2,575 kilometers) from the coasts of Hawaii and California on Monday afternoon.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the depression could become a tropical storm on Tuesday.
