HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Convicted killer Lee Andrew Taylor has been executed for fatally stabbing a fellow Texas prison inmate 12 years ago.
The 32-year-old Taylor died at 6:24 p.m. CDT Thursday after receiving a lethal injection in Huntsville after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal. His attorneys argued that Taylor had shoddy legal help during his trial and early stages of his appeals. That argument had spared the life of another death row inmate on Wednesday.
Taylor already was serving a life sentence for murdering a Houston-area man during a home break-in when he attacked inmate Donta Green at a prison near Texarkana. He claimed self-defense.
Taylor was among only a handful of white offenders on Texas death row for killing a black person and only the second to be executed.
