(CNSNews.com) - Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says she doesn't know if there's any way people will be able to tell which insurance plans on the federal health exchanges offer abortion coverage and which do not.
Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) asked Sebelius, "If someone, a constituent of mine, has strongly held pro-life views, can you commit to us to make sure that the federal exchanges that offer that is clearly identified, so people can understand if they're going buy a policy that has abortion coverage or not? Because right now, you cannot make that determination."
"Sir, I don't know," Sebelius said. "I know exactly the -- the, um, issue you're talking about. I will check and make sure that that is clearly identifiable."
Shimkus then asked Sebelius if she could give the committee a list of insurers in the federal exchange who do not offer abortion coverage.
"I think we can do that," Sebelius said.
"I think or I know we can do that?" Shimkus asked, not hearing her clearly at first.
"I -- Sir, I can't tell you what I don't know firmly right now. I know that is the plan. I will get that information to you."
