A surfer along Oregon's coast says he's had a rare and dangerous encounter with a great white shark.

Doug Niblack says he was knocked off his board Monday near Seaside, Ore., and ended up standing on top of the shark, which he says appeared to be 10-to-12-feet long.

He says he was lifted out of the water above his knees for several seconds before the shark took off.

Another surfer witnessed the incident and says he and Niblack paddled to shore as fast as they could.
