WASHINGTON (AP) — VOTE TO SUBPOENA CORZINE: The House Agriculture Committee has voted to subpoena former Sen. Jon Corzine to testify next week about his role leading MF Global, a brokerage firm that collapsed this fall after a disastrous bet on European debt.
GRILLING A FORMER SENATOR: It was a rare instance of a former member of Congress being summoned by his former peers to testify at a hearing about a matter under federal investigation. An estimated $1.2 billion or more may be missing from MF Global customer accounts. Regulators are investigating.
MORE HEARINGS, POSSIBLY MORE SUBPOENAS: Also Friday, the head of the Senate Agriculture Committee called for subpoenas to be issued to Corzine and other MF Global executives to appear at a Dec. 13 hearing, if they don't come voluntarily. And the House Financial Services oversight subcommittee announced plans to vote on a subpoena for Corzine to appear at its Dec. 15 hearing.
