KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A provincial governor says six suicide bombers have attacked his compound in eastern Afghanistan.

Parwan provincial governor Abdul Basir Salangi says several people have been killed in Sunday's coordinated attack on the walled compound in the city of Charikar, northeast of Kabul.

He does not know the precise death toll so far.

Witnesses say they heard at least five explosions near the palace and that fighting is ongoing.

Salangi says the attack occurred during a provincial security meeting.
