FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Jets coach Rex Ryan says this is the best roster he's had since coming to New York, and it includes a star running back who restructured his contract so the team could sign more players.

After a walkthrough workout Monday, LaDainian Tomlinson said redoing his deal "was my being able to prove the words I've said" about winning being his main priority. His decision helped the Jets re-sign receiver Santonio Holmes and cornerback Antonio Cromartie, then to bring in receiver Plaxico Burress.

To Ryan, that makes for the strongest Jets team since he was hired in 2009. So, once more, he was "standing by what I always say" about the Jets being championship caliber. He also issued a challenge to other teams to beat the division-rival Patriots.
