NEW YORK (AP) — Justin Bieber's representative says a scuffle outside a Macy's department store where the teen was attending a promotional event "a misunderstanding."

The incident happened Thursday afternoon outside the store in Manhattan, where Bieber was promoting his new fragrance.

Police said tumult broke out when the singer exited the store to greet fans. Police and the teen's personal security tried to usher him back inside when a man blocked the doorway and refused to get out of the way. Police said they had to physically move him. The man was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and released. Police learned later that he was a member of the singer's personal security team.

The 17-year-old Canadian singer was not injured in the scuffle.
