Rep. McCotter: Defunding Obamacare is ‘Way to Ensure the Will of the American People’

Washington (CNSNews.com) - A Michigan Republican congressman said he’s in favor of Rep. Steve King’s (R-Iowa) idea of defunding Obamacare by adding language to every appropriations bill barring funds from going to pay for its provisions.

On Capitol Hill on Wednesday, CNSNews.com asked Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.), “Rep. Steve King has advocated putting a provision into each appropriations bill that would prohibit the funding of Obamacare in that bill. Do you support that as a way of defunding Obamacare?”

McCotter said, “Yeah, I think the power of the purse is one of the ways to stop taxpayer money from being used to implement a law that doesn’t have the consent of the American people."

“How we specifically go about that is something that I sure is going to be heavily discussed at our retreat and throughout the process," McCotter said.  "But I think that’s a very fair way to go about it. Do you want your money being used for something you didn’t consent to?”
