Records: Utah teen found in river beaten to death
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Court records say a 15-year-old Utah girl whose body was found in a river was beaten to death after fighting off a sexual assault.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/I5kP0g ) one of the two men held in the death of Anne Kasprzak of Riverton says she "put up one hell of a fight" and "went swimming." He apparently didn't elaborate.
Witnesses say 31-year-old Daniel Ferry was bloody when he returned to a party and gave that account after the attack, which happened a month ago at the Jordan River. Police say the girl had extensive facial injuries and they had to use dental records to identify her.
The details came from search warrant affidavits filed in 3rd District Court — and then sealed Tuesday when prosecutors learned they got out to news agencies.
Ferry and 30-year-old Veanuia Vehekite are being held at the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of homicide.
Ferry reportedly told investigators he had no involvement in the girl's death. It wasn't clear if the men had attorneys.
