'Project Gunrunner' Whistleblower Says ATF Is Trying to Fire Him

From Fox News: An ATF agent who criticized – and publicized -- the agency’s “Project Gunrunner” scandal says he’s being fired for politically motivated reasons.

Vince Cefalu says he was served with termination papers last week, and he says it’s because he’s been so vocal about ATF mismanagement, past and present. He was one of the whistleblowers who helped publicize the ATF’s role in allowing thousands of guns to be purchased by associates of Mexican drug cartels.

ATF told Fox News it is not retaliating against Cefalu. In its termination letter, ATF says Cefalu leaked documents on a website he helped create, CleanupATF.org, and showed a “lack of candor” on past projects, including one dating back to 2005 in which Cefalu objected to the use of wiretaps to gather evidence. Cefalu says his role in exposing Project Gunrunner apparently was the last straw for his bosses. He can appeal his termination but will be on paid administrative leave during the process, Fox reported.
