PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities in Portland, Ore., have released the names of the victims and a few other details about two killings from the 1970s that they say a 63-year-old man confessed to.

Police said Tuesday that Jeffrey Paul Cutlip has been charged with murder in the two cases.

The first dates to 1975, when 44-year-old Marlene Claire Carlson was found strangled in her apartment.

The second dates to 1977. Police say that's when 15-year-old Julie Marie Bennett went missing and was found dead two days later in a creek.

An extradition hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Texas.

Police in Brownsville, Texas, say Cutlip called them Saturday and confessed to four crimes. However, Portland police haven't confirmed that or released details of any other killings.

Authorities haven't said what motivated him to come forward.
