LOWER BURRELL, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a police officer has been shot and killed near a western Pennsylvania fast-food restaurant as has a man believed to have been the gunman.

Westmoreland County spokesman Dan Stephens says the shooting happened Wednesday night in Lower Burrell, a city of about 13,000 residents near downtown Pittsburgh.

Authorities say the shooting happened near a Dairy Queen restaurant where the officer's car was parked.

Police at the scene say the other man who died of gunfire is believed to have been the gunman. Police haven't said whether he was killed by the officer or other officers or shot himself.
