WASHINGTON (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry used official channels to reach out to some of his biggest donors in the months leading up to his White House run.
An Associated Press review of phone logs and public schedules shows Perry also met with a businessman who would later back an independent group supportive of his campaign.
Those whom Perry called have raised millions for his state and federal campaigns, and some were appointed to state jobs. The documents show the blurring line between governing and campaigning this election cycle.
Perry officials say the calls were proper and for state business.
