Oliver Stone to Al Jazeera: Obama 'Never Had Any Liberals in His Inner Circle'

(CNSNews.com) -- Movie director and producer Oliver Stone told Al Jazeera in a video interview last week that President Barack Obama “never had any liberals in his inner circle,” surrounding himself instead with advisers whom Stone described as “hawkish” and “conservative.”

“Why didn’t he do anything to restore some of the laws that Bush so egregiously broke,” Stone said of Obama.

“This is a very key question, and it puzzles many of us. I mean, he surrounded himself from the get-go with advisers who were hawkish, conservative economic advisers, as well as [former Defense Secretary Robert] Gates over at Defense who was an old hawk from the ‘80s and Hillary Clinton, whose maybe the most hawkish Democratic—"

Al Jazeera interviewer Rosalind Jordan interrupted: “A former CIA operative,”

“Yeah, Bob Gates, yeah. Bob Gates, yeah,” said Stone.

“So Obama never had a team of so called rivals,” Stone said a moment later. “He never had any liberals in his inner circle.”

Stone was appearing on Al Jazeera to promote his new book The Untold History of the United States, co-authored by Peter Kuznick. Robert Gates served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1991 to 1993 and as secretary of defense from 2006-2011. He began his career as a CIA intelligence analyst in 1969.
