Obamas hand out Halloween treats at White House
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barak Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are standing in the orange glow of the White House's northern portico on a snowy afternoon passing out Halloween treats to trick-or-treaters from capital area elementary schools and children of military families.
The White House north lawn is festooned with web-like gauze and decorated with pumpkins, gourds and hay bales.
Actors from Washington-area theatres are entertaining the children.
Treats include White House M&Ms, sweet dough butter cookies baked by White House Pastry Chef Bill Yosses and a serving of dried fruit.
Children from military families also have been invited to attend a special Halloween party inside the White House on Saturday evening.
