Obama’s Benghazi ‘Cover-up’ Like FDR’s ‘Cover-up,’ Author Says

(CNSNews.com) – Author and journalist M. Stanton Evans said on Thursday that the government’s ‘cover-up’ of the 9/11 Benghazi attacks in which four Americans were killed, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, “looks a lot like” the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration’s cover-ups.

CNSNews.com asked Evans to address the extent to which he thinks FDR’s policies contributed to the infiltration of Communists and if he believes any parallels can be drawn between FDR’s administration and today’s administration.

“The FDR part is basically what this book is about,” Evans said at the Heritage Foundation where Evans was speaking about his most recent book, “Stalin’s Secret Agents: The Subversion of Roosevelt’s Government.”

“And the answer is the flood gates were thrown open under Roosevelt for Communists to infiltrate the government,” Evans said.

“As to what is going on now, I was on the Glenn Beck show a couple years ago, and he asked me about an analogy between what happened then and what is happening now…but I can say this…to all external appearances, it’s very similar,” he said.

In his book, Evans discusses the methods by which Russian dictator Joseph Stalin sent “agents of influence” to work under the FDR administration in the interests of the Soviet Union.

In his assessment of the current administration’s response to the attacks in Benghazi on Sept. 11, Evans said the “cover-ups” about what happened are an “unwillingness to acknowledge the danger that we face.”

“There is the cover-up. Look at this Benghazi thing. This is flagrant, absolutely flagrant cover-up of obvious sort[s]. If you listened to Obama’s press conference yesterday, he’s saying ‘It’s an outrage. Susan Rice knew nothing about Benghazi? You want to mess with us? You come to me,’ Evans said.

“Well, if she knows nothing about Benghazi, why did you send her to five talk shows to read off your propaganda line about a video causing what happened in Benghazi?” he added.

During the White House press conference on Wednesday, President Obama called the criticisms of UN Ambassador Susan Rice, made by Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), “outrageous,” saying that she knew “nothing” about Benghazi.

Obama also revealed for the first time since Sept. 11 that the White House, in fact, sent Ambassador Rice on five Sunday talk shows to provide information about the events that transpired in Libya when four Americans were killed.

This revelation, coming less than one week after initial speculation that the FBI would investigate an alleged scandal following the resignation of CIA Director Gen. David Petraeus because of an extramarital affair. Until yesterday, it was unclear as to who sent the ambassador on national television to say that the attacks were the result of an anti-Islamic video.

In the fallout since the White House and State Department said the attack was not in response to a video, members of Congress have called on the Obama administration to provide information as to what intelligence was available and how soon it was available following the attack.

As CNSNews.com previously reported, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) has called on the Obama administration to appoint an independent council with the sole purpose to investigate exactly what happened in Libya and prosecute those who are responsible.

Gohmert presented the petition, which has gathered 100,000 signatures, at a Capitol Hill press conference on Thursday. A copy of the petition, obtained by CNSNews.com states, in part:

“Whereas, evidence indicates that the massacre at the American embassy in Benghazi was part of a greater terror plot, which culminated in the brutal assassination of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and,

Whereas, President Barack Obama and high ranking members of his administration had access to such evidence immediately following the attack, and,

Whereas, President Obama and members of his administration proceeded to mislead the American people for two weeks after the attack into believing that it was a spontaneous response to a low-budget, anti-Islamic video being circulated on the Internet, and,

…Whereas, President Obama and members of his administration have yet to convey the full truth about the administration’s failings in the Benghazi massacre to the American people.”

“And that matches what happened over and over again in the Cold War cover-up after cover-up after cover-up. What happened in Yalta – most of that was in secret – the contained massacre in Poland covered up by our government-controlled by the Soviets where they murdered 15,000-20,000 Soviet officers. The Soviets did it – covered [it] up,” Evans said.

“[There were] cover-ups of grand juries, missing documents. I’ve spent a lot of time chasing down documents that had disappeared and had been so censored you couldn’t read them. And all of that looks a lot like what’s going on now…so that’s my external view,” he added.
