No Good for Newark Airport, but Good Enough to Keep Job With TSA

The top TSA official at Newark airport will be reassigned instead of fired.

From the New Jersey Star-Ledger: The federal security director at Newark Liberty International Airport is leaving her job, following a number of security lapses and a blistering critique from her own team of managers.

Barbara Bonn Powell, who has held the Transportation Security Administration’s top post at Newark Liberty since January 2008, announced on Tuesday she's leaving the airport, but not the TSA. She's being reassigned to a "senior adviser" position at the TSA's Office of Human Capital, the TSA announced.

The Star-Ledger reports there were a number of security lapses at Newark during Powell's tenure, and an analysis found that under her leadership, "fear of reprisal and retaliation" permeated the work environment.
