MEDFORD, N.J. (AP) — A married New Jersey mayor has resigned his post two months after someone claiming to be a prostitute said on a website he had sex with the mayor at a California hotel.

Chris Myers resigned Monday from the top spot in the government of Medford, a town of 23,000 residents near Philadelphia.

The anonymous allegation against Myers included a photo of a man who appeared to be him in his underwear.

The person making the allegation said he met Myers through a male escort website. He complained Myers paid him $500 but didn't fulfill promises of other gifts.

Myers denied the claims in a council meeting last month.

Myers ran for Congress as a Republican in 2008. He has been suspended as a vice president at technology manufacturer Lockheed Martin Corp.
