Navy jet's engine taken from Va. Beach crash site
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — The Navy has removed an engine and other pieces of a jet that crashed at a Virginia Beach apartment complex.
The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/IGIW9H ) that workers in protective gear used a crane Wednesday to remove the F/A-18D debris. The jet crashed on Friday shortly after taking off from nearby Naval Air Station Oceana.
City officials say a plan is being worked out to allow residents of the Mayfair Mews apartment complex to return to their homes, although it was unclear when that might occur.
The Navy expects to finish with debris removal by the end of the week.
