Rep. Franks: ‘Obama...Will Go Down in History as the Abortion President’
(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said that President Barack Obama will “go down in history as the abortion president,” adding that when Dr. Kermit Gosnell--a Philadelphia abortionist who delivered babies alive and then killed them by snipping their spinal cords with scissors--was convicted and sent to prison, the president “said not a word.”
“President Obama, unfortunately and tragically, will go down in history as the abortion president,” Franks told CNSNews.com. “This is a president that has uncharacteristically supported abortion-on-demand, in all its applications. He has voted twice against a bill that would have protected children born alive in an abortion.”
“And when Kermit Gosnell did all the horrible things that he did,” Franks continued, “the president of the United States, the ostensible protector of human dignity in this country said not a word. I am profoundly disappointed in him.”
CNSNews.com spoke with Franks on Capitol Hill at a July 8 event he hosted to raise awareness about children who are born with cleft palates and cleft lips. Franks is a lead sponsor of the Prenatal Nondiscrimiantion Act (HR 447), re-introduced last year, which would “prohibit discrimination against the unborn on the basis of sex or race, and for other purposes.”
The legislation is in committee, and President Obama opposes the bill. Concerning the proposal, the White House in 2012 said the “government should not intrude in medical decisions or private family matters in this way.”
CNSNews.com also asked Franks if he thought technology was aiding the pro-life cause. He said, “There’s no question about it. We are now able to see the child and it’s a whole difference in charm – when you can see a child, it’s a little hard to tear a child apart limb from limb that you can see.”
President Obama is a staunch supporter of Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States. In its latest annual report, Planned Parenthood states that its offices performed 327,166 abortions for the year Oct. 1, 2011 to Sept. 30, 2012.
