(CNSNews.com) -- In reference to President Donald Trump's budget proposal for fiscal year 2018, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell applauded the plan to phase out all taxpayer funding to the Corporation of Public Broadcasting (CPB).

The CPB currently receives about $445 million in federal funding.

In a statement released today, the MRC's Bozell said, “This is fantastic news. There is absolutely no reason for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to receive taxpayer funding."

"I have long opposed taxpayer subsidization of public broadcasting because it’s not the federal government’s business to prop up media entities with taxpayer money," said Bozell.  "There are plenty of leftwing billionaires who could help fund the liberal propaganda coming from CPB."

"Now it’s time for Congress to follow through and eliminate CPB’s funding once and for all," he said.

In addition to the CPB, the Trump budget proposal for 2018 calls for eliminating 18 other agencies, including the National Endowment for the Arts and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
