Miami-Dade County voting for new mayor

MIAMI (AP) — Miami-Dade County residents will be voting for a new mayor.

Tuesday is a special election to replace Mayor Carlos Alvarez, who was ousted in a March recall election.

There are 11 candidates on the ballot, including former 2 Live Crew rapper Luther "Luke" Campbell, who's touting his business experience as a record company executive and his decades of community involvement in his hometown.

The others include Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina, who's under federal criminal investigation for possible tax evasion. Robaina has denied any wrongdoing.

If no one gets a majority of votes Tuesday, the top two candidates will have a runoff in June.

With more than 2.5 million people, Miami-Dade County is the most populous area ever to recall a local official.
