(CNSNews.com) – President Donald Trump on Thursday lashed out at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for not being successful at repealing and replacing Obamacare.

This after McConnell criticized the president in a speech before the Rotary Club in his home state, CNN reported.

In a tweet Thursday, the president said: “Can you believe that Mitch McConnell, who has screamed Repeal & Replace for 7 years, couldn't get it done. Must Repeal & Replace ObamaCare!”

Trump followed that with another tweet specifically mentioning McConnell’s criticism: “Senator Mitch McConnell said I had ‘excessive expectations,’ but I don't think so. After 7 years of hearing Repeal & Replace, why not done?”

McConnell said the president had “excessive expectations about how quickly things happen in the democratic process.”

"Our new president, of course, has not been in this line of work before," said McConnell according to CNN affiliate WCPO which covered the event. "I think he had excessive expectations about how quickly things happen in the democratic process."

The Senate majority leader also said, “Part of the reason I think people think we're under-performing is because of too many artificial deadlines unrelated to the reality of the legislature which may have not been understood."
