NEW YORK (AP) — A man has been convicted of a misdemeanor assault charge in a New York City parking-space clash that left a woman brain-damaged, but he was acquitted of a more serious felony charge.

The verdict came Tuesday in Oscar Fuller's second trial. A previous jury was allowed to consider only the felony assault charge. That panel deadlocked.

Fuller faces a potential yearlong jail term at his June 18 sentencing.

Fuller acknowledges punching Lana Rosas in the face during their February 2011 confrontation in downtown Manhattan. She was knocked off her feet and hit her head on the ground.

The Manhattan district attorney's office called the blow a brutal attack. Defense lawyer Thomas Kenniff says Fuller never foresaw or intended such serious injuries.
