Lawyer: Teen only a witness in Pa. torture death

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A defense attorney for a Pennsylvania teenager says she was a witness but not a participant in what he called "a tragedy of epic proportions" — the torture murder of a mentally disabled woman.

Michael DeMatt made his closing argument Thursday in the murder trial of 18-year-old Angela Marinucci, of Greensburg.

Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck argues that Marinucci instigated last year's attack on 20-year-old Jennifer Daugherty.

Authorities say Marinucci was jealous because she and the victim were involved with the same man, one of five other co-defendants set to stand trial later this year.

Marinucci says she was no longer involved with him.

She was 17 when the crime occurred, and cannot face the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder.
