LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a former police detective charged with murdering a romantic rival 26 years ago.
The panelists deliberating the case against Stephanie Lazarus sent word Thursday that they had made a decision minutes after they had returned to court to ask for an instruction in the law of second-degree murder.
The verdict will be read at 1:45 p.m. PST.
The case was submitted to jurors on Tuesday afternoon after intense closing arguments by both sides.
The prosecution said Lazarus was motivated by jealousy when victim Sherri Rasmussen married the defendant's former lover. Prosecutors say Lazarus' DNA was matched to saliva from a bite mark on the victim's arm.
