NEW YORK (AP) — A new crop of online services are trying to help organize your social-networking buddies into smaller groups. One such service, called Katango, says it has figured out a way to automate the whole process.
These services are appearing as the number of friends and followers that people collect on various social networks grows.
Katango has been available as an iPhone app and is launching a Web version Wednesday. It organizers users' Facebook friends into groups based on a formula developed by a computer science professor and graduate students at Stanford University.
It is free to use. Katango says it wants to do for people's social experience online what Google's search formula did for Web pages. That is, organize them based on a useful and accurate algorithm.
